Washington DC – -(Ammoland.com)- On the heels of his efforts to ban gun stores in “99.5 percent” of Chicago, Mayor Rahm Emanuel now wants to limit Chicagoans to one gun purchase a month.
This push is aimed at “retail firearms customers”–i.e., law-abiding citizens.
According to the Chicago Tribune, Emanuel is basing this push on “researchers [who] have found a statistically significant correlation between guns used to commit crimes and guns purchased in bulk.”
A University of Pennsylvania study in 2007 found that “[25 percent] of all guns used in crime were purchased as part of a multiple gun sale.”
This comes on top of Emanuel's efforts to videotape every retail gun transaction–in the .5 percent of Chicago allowed to have gun stores–and to force those gun stores“to submit a safety plan outlining exterior lighting, surveillance cameras and alarm systems, as well as storage of guns and ammunition.”
He also wants gun store employees to “undergo fingerprinting, background checks and training on identifying potential gun traffickers.”

Wisconsin –-(Ammoland.com)- Master Sergeant Moisha Johnson has just retired from the Air Force after twenty two years of excellent service to her country (not a real person). MSgt Johnson is originally from the south side of Chicago.
She never thought she would move back there after her Air Force career, but, like many middle aged Americans, she has elderly parents who need her support.
MSgt Johnson used her time well while in the Air Force and got her degree. This enabled her to land a teaching position with the Chicago school system. MSgt Johnson did not want to live in the City of Chicago, but being a teacher in that city comes with the requirement to reside inside the city limits.
MSgt Johnson was trained on both handguns and long guns in the Air Force. She deployed to a number of “hot” locations in the world where she had to carry a firearm everyday to her point of work. She is no stranger to weapons.
Now MSgt Johnson was permanently “deploying” to another “hot” location—the south side of Chicago. Her odds of getting shot in Chicago went up greatly over her odds of begin shot in Afghanistan. Her plan was, just as in the military where she was armed and in-harm’s-way, to carry her military firearms training into her new civilian life.
The problem is she was moving to the “blue” controlled, gun-hating state of Illinois and worst yet the really gun-hating city of Chicago. Now it just so happens that Illinois has been forced to create a conceal carry law that the City of Chicago cannot enact any local ordinances against. So the positive thing is that MSgt Johnson can bring her firearms with her when she moves to Chicago, get her state-issued conceal carry permit and be safer should she take mass transit in the city.
But wait–there is a catch. Chicago, through the State of Illinois, has managed to insert a Jim Crow, Apartheid-based firearm restriction into the new conceal carry law.
Law-abiding Illinois citizens who have gone through the rather difficult process of acquiring their new Concealed Carry Weapon Permit cannot carry their “legal” firearms on public transportation. If you have ever ridden on public transportation in a large city, you will quickly figure out who actually rides the buses and trains–minorities and white people of lesser means. I know lots of middle class business men and women ride the commuter trains of the Chicago area, but the majority of them ride the relatively safe morning and evening rush hour trains. They are not on a city bus at 11:00 pm coming home from work on the south side.
What the City of Chicago has (unofficially, of course) said is that minorities and poor whites are where the potential gun violence will come from, so let’s insert a restriction that will, for the most part, impact “them” in an uneven manner.
If I go to Chicago as a middle class white guy, I will drive my vehicle and pay the high parking fees, doing this for my convenience. If MSgt Johnson wants to come up from the south side by train to go shopping on State Street, she has to disarm herself–kind of shades of Mississippi in the 1950s.
Every 21-50 year old minority person you meet on the streets is not a criminal—fact not media hype. If you are a law abiding citizen with no criminal record and you follow your state’s requirements to acquire your conceal carry permit, why must there be restrictions that clearly target certain classes of American citizens?
Approximately 5% of the people who kill or are killed in Chicago are white. The rest of the perpetrators and victims are minorities, with black Americans being in the highest percentages of both killer and killed.
I understand the concern about minority gun violence in Chicago, but I also understand MSgt Johnson, USAF Retired, now a residence of Chicago is one of the good guys in that City. She is a perfect example of who the new conceal carry law was meant to help.
Why must Jim Crow–with a little “j”--have to restrict her ability to protect her law-abiding self? The bad guys on the south side of Chicago are going to carry their guns on the buses and trains anyway. They do not have and cannot get a permit to carry concealed, so they just bring their illegal firearms along and good people become victims.
To all the career military out there, enjoy your hard earned retirement, but be aware that your new civilian life can be more dangerous than when you were in uniform.

Chicago’s Mayor Emmanuel Knows Continues To Play Dirty Hard BallNational Shooting Sports Foundation
NEWTOWN, Conn –-(Ammoland.com)- The Chicago City Council with great reluctance in the last full week of June ended its long-standing prohibition and approved an ordinance intended to satisfy a federal court order to allow firearms retailers to open within the city limits.
Mayor Rahm Emmanuel made certain that the regulations were written to be extensive, rigid and difficult to meet.
Among other requirements, stores would have to maintain a sales log of gun sales that duplicates existing federal requirements. Once open, retailers could sell one handgun a month to a buyer. Then, if the city revokes a store’s business license for violating the ordinance, it could not reopen at the same location for three years. The cost of that license was pegged at $3,800.
We can easily envision a gauntlet of city inspectors awaiting a store owner seeking to open for business.
Of special concern is establishment of so-called “special-use zoning” that would seem to eliminate 99.5 percent of Chicago’s land area from ever seeing a store
It seems safe to say, that the city’s political machine wants to make sure that no store opens without considerable and sustained dint of effort. All the warning lights are flashing: “Not welcome.” Court order or not, the mayor and the council he controls are pursuing gun control by other means – Chicago style. Legal challenges seem likely and the process will drag out.
Blaming firearms retailers for violent urban crime has been a hallmark of politics for decades. Chicago politicians, in particular, have excelled at this straw-man tactic. What they have never done and are unlikely ever to do is to acknowledge that firearms retailers do not want to sell guns to criminals or to those who would hand them over to criminals in a straw purchase. That is not their political narrative, but it is the truth and the reason the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) was put into place by Congress in 1998 at the urging of the firearms industry.
Knowing that Chicago politicians have preferred to blame retailers over tackling the extremely difficult task of addressing the real causes of urban violence is one reason we brought the largest investment NSSF has made to date in a Don’t Lie for the Other Guy public information campaign to Chicago, Detroit and Flint earlier this year. The bulk of that outdoor and radio advertising buy was in Chicago. We would point out that Mayor Emmanuel did not take note of this campaign, even though we bought outdoor space where he could hardly have missed the message.
That’s all right. We didn’t expect a bouquet.
Court order or not, Rahm Emmanuel and the Chicago City Council under his control are still working to curtail the lawful commerce in firearms. It doesn’t matter to them that their citizens’ right to keep and bear arms for self-defense was reiterated by the U.S. Supreme Court in two decisions in recent years. It was those decisions that ultimately resulted in the very court order with which that mayor is doing his best to minimally comply – in the name of perpetuating a false public safety narrative.
It’s hardball politics as usual in Chicago.

Charlotte, NC –-(Ammoland.com)- While litigants generally bear their own costs in the American legal system, certain provisions of federal law allow parties who prevail in “proceedings in vindication of civil rights” to be awarded reasonable attorney’s fees.
NRA has once again used these provisions to recoup attorney’s fees from the City of Chicago.
You would think that Chicago's disarmament-focused politicians would have learned their lesson after being court ordered to pay NRA over $600,000 in legal fees for work done by NRA attorneys on McDonald v. City of Chicago.
Nevertheless, Chicago has once again been court ordered to pay NRA’s legal fees, this time $940,000 for work on Illinois Association of Firearm Retailers v. City of Chicago (formerly Benson v. City of Chicago). That case challenged the prohibition on lawful gun sales within the city.
As noted earlier this week, this brings Chicago’s recent total for NRA legal fees to over $1.5 million.
That's a lot of cash, even to politicians who are spending their constituents' money. Still, the city’s new push to keep gun dealers away through over-regulation may well indicate that its aldermen and its mayor, Rahm Emanuel, remain willing to spend even more taxpayer funds to support even more symbolic and ineffective gun control.

BELLEVUE, WA – -(Ammoland.com)- The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms has named the Top Ten Anti-Gunners for 2014, with billionaire Michael Bloomberg topping the list.
Bloomberg get the top spot for using his wealth to buy elections in an effort to turn the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms into a heavily-regulated government privilege.
“The people on this list have worked very hard to undermine the civil rights of every American citizen who owns a firearm [or believes in the Constitution], or may one day want to, and they deserve vilification,” CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb said.
Bloomberg spent $50 million to create Everytown for Gun Control, the anti-gun lobbying organization. He helped finance the Initiative 594 gun control campaign in Washington State and he is supporting a similar effort in Nevada.

Paul Allen – The billionaire co-founder of Microsoft and principle owner of the Seattle Seahawks and Portland Trailblazers, he dumped a half-million dollars into the I-594 gun control campaign in Washington State.

CCRKBA also gave “dishonorable mention” to Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe for wanting to resurrect one-gun-a-month legislation in his state, Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy and Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper, who both have pressed their gun control agendas, driving businesses and jobs out of their states; California Attorney General Kamala Harris, who has steadfastly defended arbitrary and discretionary concealed carry permits; former CNN commentator Piers Morgan for continuing his anti-gun rhetoric even though it forced his program’s cancellation.

Fairfax, VA -(AmmoLand.com)- A recent report by the Chicago Sun-Times reveals the diversity of the Chicagoans choosing to exercise their Right-to-Carry, offering some rare good news regarding the city’s beleaguered gun owners.
According to a Sun-Times analysis of Right-to-Carry permit data obtained from the Illinois State Police, the city zip codes with the most permit-holding residents span from “upper middle-class, safe and predominately white neighborhoods” to “high-crime, minority neighborhoods.” Delving into further detail, the article states “Chicago’s highest concentration of permits is in the 60617 ZIP… According to the census, about 55 percent of the residents in 60617 are black, 34 percent are Hispanic and 7 percent white.”
The piece goes on to note that the Auburn Gresham, Avalon Park and Chatham neighborhoods also rank high in their number of permit holders. These areas are described as “minority neighborhoods that have been plagued by gun violence.”
The abundance of Right-to-Carry permit holders in high-crime and predominantly minority communities helps to break down pernicious stereotypes about the “typical” gun owner and permit holder. The data also proves that the protection offered by exercising the Right-to-Carry is being used by those most vulnerable to violent crime.
Under the rule of anti-gun Clinton and Obama staffer Rahm Emanuel, Chicagoans have been forced to cope with severe, and frequently-debated, levels of violent crime that the authorities often appear helpless to contain. In this climate of rampant crime, even the mayor’s son was the victim of a robbery only a short distance from the family home. Taking a brief respite from his usual spin on public safety, in January, the notoriously combative mayor conceded that city residents don’t feel safe, noting “Too many families, too many parents do not let their kids go outside because they're scared.”
This feeling was likely further cemented following the July 4th holiday weekend, during which 55 were wounded by illegal gunfire and 10 killed. In this environment, permit-holding Windy City residents are wise to provide for their own self-defense.
Hopefully, the breadth and diversity of permit-holding Chicagoans revealed by the Sun-Times will encourage more residents to follow their lead and get the tools of protection to the communities where they are most needed.

Washington DC – -(Ammoland.com)- As of November 23 2015, there had been 2703 shootings which resulted in 440 deaths year-to date in heavily gun-controlled Chicago.
That is an increase of approximately 400 shootings over the same time last year.
The Chicago Tribune reported these numbers as part of their broader coverage of the 11 people shot, five killed, over the course of last weekend alone. Half of those wounded were shot on November 22 “between about 12:25 p.m. and 8:40 p.m.” Three of those killed were shot on that same day, between those same hours as well.
It is worth noting that while this violence proves the impotency of gun control in general, it is especially damning when juxtaposed with some of the most recent gun control endeavors in particular.
For example, Chicago implemented a “violence tax” at suburban Cook County gun stores in April 2013. The tax is gathered on each gun and bullet sold within the county. Then, in 2014–the first full calendar year after the implementation of the tax–the Chicago Tribune reported 434 deaths–a 19 death increase over 2013.
Now, as of November 23 2015, the Tribune shows 440 deaths with over a month left to go in calendar year 2015. That means the death toll from gun violence in Chicago through November 2015 has already exceeded the death toll for all of 2014.
It is interesting to note that regardless of the failure of the “violence tax,” the Seattle City Council adopted a similar tax on August 10 2105. As with Chicago, gun crime in Democrat-run Seattle is raging.
2703 Shootings, 440 Deaths Year-To-Date In Heavily Gun-Controlled Chicago
8 Killed, At Least 39 Wounded In Chicago Over Mother's Day WeekendAmmoLand Gun News
Washington DC – -(Ammoland.com)- Eight people were killed and “at least 39 other people were wounded” from shootings in gun-controlled Chicago over Mother’s Day weekend.
The last of the eight shooting fatalities was 16-year-old Nathan Hicks, who “was found in the street [Sunday afternoon] about 3:20 p.m. in the 3400 block of West Arthington with multiple gunshot wounds.”
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, a shooting in West Garfield Park neighborhood left a 20-year-old male dead and a 19-year-old woman wounded just hours before Hicks was killed. The male–Deshawn Thompson–was shot multiple times and transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A 21-year-old man was shot to death Sunday morning in the Park Manor neighborhood and “a 35-year-old man was shot to death while riding in a car on Lake Shore Drive on the North Side” earlier in the day.
Saturday was a similar story, with some people shot while riding in cars, others shot while driving cars, and others while walking down sidewalks. On Saturday night a 58-year-old man was shot “dead while sitting at the kitchen table of his Archer Heights neighborhood home.”
Breitbart News previously reported that Chicago has an “assault weapons” ban, a “violence tax,” and heavy restrictions on the number of gun stores allowed and the locations of those stores. But these various gun controls do not affect criminals who avoid gun stores and other places that might expose them to law enforcement. Instead, they still acquire “assault weapons” and other firearms by getting them on the street, where guns that law-abiding citizens are banned from owning can be readily acquired by persons unconcerned with the thought of prison time or death.
In truth, the numerous gun controls in Chicago only succeed in guaranteeing that law-abiding citizens have a more difficult time getting a gun that can be used for lawful purposes–including self-defense.
Chicago had 169 homicides between January 1 and April 18 2016, which makes the eight fatalities over Mother’s Day weekend a microcosm of an ongoing problem that gun control only amplifies.

“Chi-raq” is the movie name bestowed upon the City of Chicago. Although proved shockingly true on a daily basis, Mayor Emanuel, reverting to type, forbids the term in his presence.
If the mayor were a Republican, Chicago’s tail-spin into chaos and violent crime would be a screaming, ongoing headline.
But of course, liberals can do no wrong! When events embarrassingly fail to fit the liberal agenda, or make liberal politicians look bad/incompetent, they are contemptuously ignored by the media, with their now-familiar self-righteous, casual attitude toward the truth!
Thus, Chicago’s scandalous, and worsening, crime wave is largely unreported. But, it is all too real for those who live there!

Violent gangs are thriving, and now represent a “shadow government” in Venezuela. They have grown rich through kidnaping, drugs, and extortion. They murder and terrorize with impunity, all amid the nation’s triple-digit inflation, and severe shortages of nearly everything. It’s the “Mad Max” scenario, going on right now!
President Maduro’s liberal regime, like Emanuel’s, renders vacuous lip-service, but does nothing. Promised “crack-downs” on violent criminals are, like Emanuel’s, so much empty wind!
The dwindling percentage of Americans who work, contribute, and pay taxes are heartsick and frightened, and our fear is manifested through purchases of guns and ammunition (which liberals are trying to stop in every way they can).
The situation in Chicago, and Venezuela, will not improve any time soon. In fact, it will wax worse, much worse!

Chicago Officials (Finally) Recognize Criminals Cause CrimeNational Rifle Association Institute For Legislative Action (NRA-ILA)
Washington, DC –-(Ammoland.com)- After more than five years in office, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel is finally looking beyond his city’s gun control laws to stop the out-of-control violence in the Windy City.
After promising in 2011 to hire a thousand new police when he first ran for office, Mayor Emanuel has announced plans to recruit hundreds of new officers to address the city’s dire personnel shortage.
Chicago officials have also begun to admit that the recent spike in homicides is a crime problem – not a gun problem.
Just this week, Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson acknowledged that “as long as we fail to hold violent repeat offenders responsible for their actions, we're going to hear the same stories of murders and shootings in certain parts of our city.”
Johnson blamed Chicago’s broken justice system. “It's frustrating for [Chicago police] to arrest a guy on Friday for an illegal gun and then the next Thursday they see him right back out on the street with another illegal gun.”
A police spokesman echoed Johnson’s frustration: “with nearly half of those we arrest for murder being repeated gun offenders, we need help to ensure these individuals stay off our streets after repeated arrests for guns.”
Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez made a similar acknowledgment last week: “Criminals know and understand our system” and “tell prosecutors that Illinois gun laws are ‘a joke.’” She noted that the worst offenders “are spending fewer and fewer days behind bars for their violent and repeat felony gun offenses,” and that “an unexplained revolving door” is “spitting these convicted criminals out of prison after they have served only a fraction of their court-imposed sentences for violent gun offenses.”
The problem is exacerbated by a new policy the Chicago Police implemented through an agreement with the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois. The policy, which took effect on January 1st 2016, requires officers to write a detailed report every time they stop a suspect for a brief investigation. This not only requires time-intensive paperwork, but suspects must also get a receipt indicating the officer’s name, and the time, place, and reason for the stop.
Under the new policy, street stops by Chicago police officers have dropped significantly.

United States Concealed Carry Association Responds to US Conference of Mayors’ Push to Limit Gun Rights
West Bend, WI –-(Ammoland.com)- The United States Concealed Carry Association has responded to an effort led by New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emmanuel to stop The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act introduced by Rep. Richard Hudson (R-N.C.) in the House and Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) in the Senate. At its annual meeting this week, the U.S. Conference of Mayors adopted a broad resolution attacking this common-sense legislation and stating that the “goals of this legislation are completely antithetical to all of the efforts to reduce and prevent gun violence….”
Remarkably, this comes just days after the recent shooting of Republican Members of Congress in Virginia, where the lack of concealed carry reciprocity in the District of Columbia prevented any of them from traveling to Virginia with a firearm. It was only because of the heroism and quick-thinking of two Capitol Police officers and arriving Alexandria police that many lives where not lost.
“This effort by liberal big city Mayors is completely tone-deaf in both its goals and its reasoning. While many of them, including Mayors De Blasio and Emmanuel, travel around with armed security guards, they want regular law-abiding citizens to go unprotected,” said Tim Schmidt, Founder and President of The United States Concealed Carry Association. “It is time for there to be national reciprocity for concealed carry permits, instead of the patchwork of laws governing reciprocity that vary by state. Virginia, where the shooting happened, has reciprocity for some states’ concealed carry permits, but if Members would have brought their guns back and forth from D.C., they would have been breaking the law. It should never be a crime to be responsibly prepared to defend yourself in any possible situation.”
U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) and Congressman Richard Hudson (D-NC) have introduced the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017, which would allow legal gun owners and concealed carry permit holders nationwide to responsibly arm themselves no matter where they are. Responsible gun owners take self-defense seriously, and these individuals have already proven that they are willing to comply with the law, by fulfilling all of the requirements associated with getting a concealed carry permit. Criminals, by definition, have no regard for laws or permits or gun free zones, and by allowing safe, responsible citizens to exercise their Second Amendment rights, our communities could be much safer.

USA –-(Ammoland.com)- Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s decision to sue the Department of Justice because it’s asking the Chicago Police Department to obey the law perfectly illustrates the dangerous disdain the modern Left has for normal Americans.
On July 25, U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions asked all cities, states, and territories applying for a very specific federal law enforcement grant to adhere to three new, very reasonable measures: To openly communicate with the Department of Homeland Security, to allow DHS officers to meet with locally-held prisoners who live in the country illegally and have been arrested for non-immigration related crimes, and to give the Department 48 hours notice before releasing such prisoners.
These are fairly simple, practical, common sense requirements – which the vast majority of cities and states gladly meet. Of course, federal, state, and local agencies should talk to and work with one another to enforce our laws. Federal agents shouldn’t be expected to consult a crystal ball to track down and deport people here illegally who are committing crimes – especially since local police know better than anyone about criminal aliens operating in their communities.
Yet, Mayor Emanuel is defending Chicago’s so-called sanctuary status, claiming that these requirements, “sow fear in local immigrant communities and ultimately make the people of Chicago less safe.”
Really? Chicago – where 4,331 people were shot and 762 were killed last year – will be less safe?
Who exactly does the Mayor think will be made safer if local police let criminal noncitizens back on the streets instead of cooperating with federal authorities to deport them?
I agree with Hispanic 100 Spokesman Steve Cortez, who says cities like Chicago deserve a different title. Cortez made the case on Fox & Friends last week saying, “it’s not sanctuary for the victims of these crimes, it’s not sanctuary for the cops who have to deal with known criminals… I’d rather call them renegade cities.”
Cortez did not stop there though. After calling Chicago “the most dangerous city, in the Western world,” he pointed out that Emanuel is a renegade mayor, as well.
“Instead of worrying about protecting the children of Chicago, he’s worried about protecting known criminal illegal immigrants – that’s a renegade action,” Cortez said.
Chicago is not alone.
The Washington Times reported in March there were nearly 500 states, cities, counties, or other jurisdictions across the country that refuse to cooperate with federal immigration officials.
That only accounts for about 2 percent of all cities, counties and states, but this is a big problem because these renegade jurisdictions potentially serve as safe havens for dangerous international crime gangs, such as MS-13, that endanger all our communities.
These gangs pose significant threat to American citizens. As I explain in my #1 New York Times best-selling book Understanding Trump, according to the Drug Enforcement Administration’s 2015 National Drug Threat Assessment the most dangerous and significant drivers of drug-related crime in the United States are multinational cartels from Mexico.
The DEA reported that the foundation of these cartels is the network of people who run the drug trade infrastructure inside U.S. borders. Specifically, the DEA said, “Actual members of Mexican TCOs are usually sent to important U.S. hub cities to manage stash houses containing drug shipments and bulk cash drug proceeds.”
Attorney General Sessions struck exactly the right tone.
Now, if you led an international drug cartel, would you set up shop in a city where your undocumented gang members would be deported upon arrest or one like Chicago, where local police looked the other way once you made bail?
Mayor Emanuel would like us to believe that he is concerned about the safety of his citizens, but his lawsuit is nothing more than a political charade. He is literally welcoming more criminals to the streets of Chicago.
In his response to the lawsuit, Attorney General Sessions struck exactly the right tone.
“They have demonstrated an open hostility to enforcing laws designed to protect law enforcement — Federal, state, and local — and reduce crime, and instead have adopted an official policy of protecting criminal aliens who prey on their own residents… No amount of federal taxpayer dollars will help a city that refuses to help its own residents,” Sessions said.
Hopefully, the other renegade states, cities, and counties in our nation will heed the Attorney General’s warning and leave their renegade ways behind them.

Mayoral Team Richard Daley & Rahm Emanuel Oppose Right-to-Carry

FAIRFAX, Va. –-(Ammoland.com)- In an unsurprising move, two of Chicago’s most prominent, and most anti-gun, politicians joined forces with a coalition of gun ban groups to oppose Right-to-Carry in Illinois.
Illinois is one of only two remaining states that deny citizens the ability to carry firearms for self-defense.
Mayor Richard Daley (D) and mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel (D-whose most recent job was President Obama’s chief of staff) resorted to the usual blather to demonstrate their opposition to qualified, law-abiding Illinoisans being able to protect themselves and their loved ones.
(Daley opined in his statement, “This bill must be defeated. Allowing concealed handguns in Illinois can turn the simplest everyday activities into dangerous situations.”)
However, it was one particular line in Daley’s statement that really shows how much he just doesn’t get it. From the mayor’s statement:
“Daley said the United States is flooded with guns. There are more than 280 million privately owned firearms in the country — almost one per person. In an average year, those guns shoot or kill almost 100,000 people in America and more than 3,000 children and teenagers die from gun violence.” (Emphasis added)
“Those guns” do no such thing, Mr. Mayor. Individuals who wield and misuse firearms are the ones responsible for those shootings. Rather than blame the inanimate object, Illinois would be far better served by targeting the criminal breaking the law. In the meantime, we should respect and support the rights of law-abiding Illinoisans to carry firearms for protection against these thugs.
NRA members and supporters in Illinois should continue to contact their representatives in Springfield in support of House Bill 148, the NRA-supported Right-to-Carry bill introduced by state Representative Brandon Phelps (D-118). A final vote could be taken at any time. HB 148 represents the best opportunity we have had in many years to ensure the law-abiding residents of Illinois will be able to exercise their right to self-defense away from the home, and the NRA continues to support it.

BELLEVUE, WA – -(Ammoland.com)- Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s proposal to slap law-abiding Illinois gun owners with a handgun registration mandate that includes a $65 per-gun fee is “nothing more than a maneuver to discourage gun ownership in the face of court rulings that have gone against Chicago’s stubborn gun ban mentality,” the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today.
Under Emanuel’s proposal, any Illinois resident purchasing a handgun would be hit with the $65 registration requirement, which is over and above current statutory requirements that include possession of a Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) card.
“This is Rahm Emanuel’s childish strategy of striking back at the Second Amendment,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan M. Gottlieb. “Chicago lost before the Supreme Court in the landmark McDonald case, and its horribly written handgun ordinance has also been rejected by a federal appeals court.
“Because he is on the losing end of the gun rights battle,” Gottlieb continued, “Mayor Emanuel now wants to take out his frustration on every law-abiding gun owner in Illinois. This is the kind of reaction one expects from a five-year-old throwing a temper tantrum, but it should be beneath the dignity of an adult who is supposed to be the leader of one of the nation’s largest cities.”
Emanuel claims that his measure is aimed at helping police, parents and community groups. But State Rep. Brandon Phelps, a Harrisburg Democrat, called the proposal a “slap in the face of every law-abiding gun owner.” Gottlieb concurs with that assessment.
“Rahm Emanuel is a both a product, and a philosophical poster child, of two anti-gun administrations,” he said. “He served in both the Clinton and Obama administrations, always as point man on gun control initiatives. He does not seem to grasp the reality that American citizens, including those living in Illinois, have a constitutionally-protected civil right to keep and bear arms for their personal protection.
“Mayor Emanuel’s crass effort to infringe on that right through legislative demagoguery is insulting and immature,” Gottlieb said. “This is the kind of behavior that continues to land Chicago in court, and pretty soon, taxpayers will grow tired of entertaining his anti-gun agenda with their dollars.”

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and State Sen. Antonio Muñoz (IL-1) are continuing their attacks on firearm ownership in Illinois. Monday, Senator Muñoz amended a bill to turn it into Emanuel's handgun registration scheme, blaming law abiding Illinois handgun owners for his failure to control crime in Chicago.
This bill makes it a felony, equivalent to arson, to possess an ‘unregistered‘ handgun in the state and further punishes victims of crime through a ‘Lost or Stolen' mandate, in other words, if you have your firearms stolen and don't report it to the police in a ‘reasonable‘ amount of time, YOU will become the criminal. To them, owning a handgun without government permission is the same as burning someone's house down.
The only purpose of this bill is to make firearm ownership more onerous and expensive for Illinois residents during a time of economic hardship. It will have no effect on criminals except to give them peace of mind knowing that fewer people will be able to defend themselves.

FAIRFAX, Va. –-(Ammoland.com)- For anyone who doubts President Barack Obama’s dedication to a second-term all-out war on the Second Amendment, say just one name —Mayor Rahm Emanuel—the new boss of Chicago machine politics, tapped as the star co-chair for Obama’s re-election campaign.
Obama’s Chicago-based campaign manager characterized the mayor as key among those who “share the president’s vision of a future. …”
The focus of that Obama-Emanuel shared vision for the nation’s gun owners can be summed up in Emanuel’s pursuit of gun bans by any means.
This is no honorary job. It is real power linking Obama’s re-election with Emanuel’s fanaticism for destroying the Second Amendment.
Emanuel has spent his political life pressing for gun control—as policy advisor to President Bill Clinton, as a member of Congress, then as Obama’s White House chief of staff. As mayor of Chicago, he is doubling down on his vendetta against lawful gun owners. And as the most visible campaign co-chair, his efforts are unconditionally tied to Obama’s re-election agenda.
Days before his campaign appointment, Emanuel launched a vicious attack on law-abiding Illinois gun owners that was stunning even by Chicago standards. Blaming peaceable citizens for Chicago’s runaway criminal violence, Emanuel has demanded that Illinois firearm owners be forced to register their handguns at $65 a pop. Possession of an unregistered gun by ordinary citizens would be a felony. Further, gun owners would be required to re-register their firearms every five years, paying an additional $25 fee per-gun.
Failure to comply would be a criminal act.
Forget to renew your registration: go to jail. Move and fail to notify authorities within 72 hours: go to jail. Take your handgun to the range, but forget your registration certificate: go to jail.
As a final insult, the mayor is demanding a punitive or “sin tax” on all ammunition sales to pay for trauma wrought by violent Chicago criminals whom he is unable or unwilling to control.
In a Feb. 9, 2012 report headlined “Emanuel Calls For Statewide Gun Registry,” CBS in Chicago reported Emanuel as bragging, “I have a long history, both on the Brady Bill, assault weapon ban, and passing gun legislation.”
Boss Emanuel credited his draconian gun registration scheme to Rev. Michael Pfleger, a radical leftist whom Barack Obama once characterized in the Chicago Sun Times as being among his personal “spiritual advisors.”
What does Obama’s “spiritual advisor” say about the NRA? Try this from a guest sermon: “It’s a MIDNIGHT HOUR when gun manufacturers and distributors and the NRA under the disguise of rights to hunt, continue to market guns as part of America’s new wardrobe and continue to arm gangs and criminals out of back rooms and back alleys of our cities, and then … seek like Pilate to wash their hands of the responsibility and accountability, of their death dealing, that causes hearses to drive down the streets of our neighborhoods carrying the bodies of our children and they say ‘We are not guilty.’”
Speaking of death and murder, for those who don’t recall, it was Pfleger who called for the killing of a Chicago area gun store owner and threatened pro-gun Illinois legislators as targets to be “snuffed out.” In June 2007, leading a near-lynch-mob at that suburban gun store, Pfleger screamed for the violent demise of the licensed dealer:
“We’re going to find you and snuff you out. … Like a rat you’re going to hide. But like a rat, we’re going to catch you and pull you out. … We’re going to snuff out John Riggio.” As for pro-gun rights state legislators: “We’re going to snuff out legislators that are voting against our gun laws. We’re coming for you because we’re not going to sit idly.”
For his clear threats of violence, there was no prosecution. Under the “Chicago Way,” Pleger’s call to “snuffing” is apparently protected.
And today, Rahm Emanuel’s in-your-face, Pfleger-inspired gun proposals are part and parcel to his being chosen as an Obama campaign major domo. This is the web of Chicago thug political connections that cannot be ignored. Know your enemies by the company they keep.
Among others tapped as campaign chairs who “each share the President’s vision” are a select group—“F-rated” gun-ban politicians, including U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, D-IL and U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky, D-IL; Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee, I; California Attorney General Kamala Harris, D and Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick, D.
Guilt by association? You bet.
With all of the talk about “transparency,” one thing is truly clear—the web of lies spun about the president’s phony, claimed support of the Second Amendment. Obama’s vision of the Second Amendment and the vision of his fellow travelers, Pfleger and Boss Emanuel, is the one that disarmed the citizens of both Washington, D.C., and Chicago—the vision that says there is no individual right to keep and bear arms.
Every gun owner must be “All In” to defeat Barack Obama in the political fight of our generation this November 6—when all of our freedoms are on the line.

NEWTOWN, Conn –-(Ammoland.com)- Chicago politicians have a long and consistent history of opposing the Second Amendment.
Their rigid anti-gun ideology ultimately resulted in the historic Supreme Court case, McDonald v. Chicago, which overturned Chicago’s handgun ban.
But local pols have not surrendered their anti-gun crusade.
And in order to further that agenda, according to a recent Chicago Sun-Times article, Chicago now has violated federal law.
The article explains that the Chicago Police Department (CPD) gave firearm trace information to the University of Chicago (U of C) Crime Lab to “analyze” and publish a report for the Department. The report concluded guns recovered from Chicago crimes were purchased outside of the city limits.
We don’t know how much the taxpayers of Chicago paid for this “report,” but it’s clear they didn’t get their money’s worth. It’s not rocket science behind the report findings, as there are no firearm retailers within Chicago city limits.
And given the anti-gun pedigree of the U of C Crime Lab, the legitimacy of the study itself in in serious question.
The executive director of the U of C Crime Lab, Roseanna Ander, has a long history of anti-gun advocacy. Ander’s served as co-chair of Mayor Emanuel’s Public Safety Transition Committee, head of the Joyce Foundation’s Gun Violence program, and as a Soros Justice Fellow in the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office. In fact, Chicago based Joyce Foundation is the leading funder of anti-gun advocacy groups in the country, with its largest beneficiary being the anti-gun Violence Policy Center.
This “study” was based in firearm trace data. When a firearm is confiscated at a crime scene or criminal arrest, a police department may forward information to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATF) to determine who made and sold the firearm. Agencies may also trace guns for reasons that have nothing to do with a criminal incident. BATF then sends back the information to the reporting agency so they can use it in a criminal case, if warranted.
Release of this data for anything other than a bona fide criminal investigation is prohibited by federal law, for very good reasons. The data used for this study should not have been released by CPD for a “published study” under current law. Doing so is a violation of the Tiahrt amendment —which was passed to protect the safety and privacy of law-abiding gun owners, police officers, witnesses, and gun dealers— by prohibiting agencies from releasing this information to non-law enforcement entities.
In fact, the pandemic of frivolous lawsuits against gun manufactures in the 1990’s stirred the need for such a law to protect privacy. It’s no surprise that Chicago was one of the cities to file such a suit, and their claims also involved trace data then, even though BATF itself has long maintained that trace data can’t be used to draw meaningful conclusions. Tiahrt was passed in response to these abuses. So in that sense, Chicago brought the privacy protections on trace data down upon itself.
Of course, Chicago politicians and bureaucrats have a long and extensive record of circumventing their citizens’ Second Amendment Rights, so this abuse is part of a pattern. Garry McCarthy, Superintendent of the Chicago PD learned the ropes under Mike Bloomberg in New York City. In Chicago, he called federal gun laws government-sponsored racism.
McCarthy is not alone. Mayor Rahm Emanuel has long harbored deep anti-gun beliefs, and was once identified as “our guy in the White House” by the Brady Campaign. He worked for Mayor Daly, served in the Clinton White House, sponsored anti-gun legislation in Congress, worked for the Obama Administration, and since becoming Mayor has pushed for more restrictions on law-abiding citizens in Illinois.
These attacks by anti-gun politicians and bureaucrats must stop. They must be held accountable for violating federal law. This release of trace data is not an isolated incident. Further transgressions can be corrected if Congress decides to add penalties to the prohibition against release of trace data.

Illinois –-(Ammoland.com)- They Failed in the Senate – Now Gov. Quinn & Chicago Mayor Emanuel Will Attempt to Push Firearm Ban Through the IL House of Reps.
Senate sponsors could not find the votes for HB815 and HB1263 before recessing for the weekend.
However, that has not stopped Gov. Quinn and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel from trying to pass a Chicago-style gun ban during the lame duck session.
The House will reconvene Sunday evening at 5 pm. and we expect a strong push to pass the gun ban and get it back to the Senate for a vote before the deadline on Wed., Jan. 9th 2013.
The bills will include banning most semi-auto handguns, rifles, and shotguns, plus restrictions on public shooting ranges that will close most, if not all, ranges in Illinois.

Call your State Representative's Springfield and district offices over the weekend and urge them to oppose these outrageous attempts to infringe on our Second Amendment rights. Be polite but firm.
